In her book Slow Dancing With a Stranger: Lost and Found in the Age of Alzheimer’s, she chronicles the tough, daily realities and responsibilities of being a full-time caretaker for her husband, Dr. Harvey Gralnick. Gralnick was chief of Hematology and Oncology at the National Institutes of Health when he was formally diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease 13 years ago, at age 58.
